Bingo Players: The Dutch House Duo Behind a Global Dance Anthem

Bingo Players were a Dutch electronic dance music production duo known for their energetic house and electro house tracks. Formed by close friends Paul Bäumer and Maarten Hoogstraten, the group achieved international fame with their 2013 crossover hit "Get Up (Rattle)." Their music, characterized by driving basslines and festival-ready drops, became a staple in EDM sets worldwide.

Early career

The duo began their career in the early 2000s, emerging from the Netherlands' prolific house music scene. They initially gained traction with a series of well-received remixes and original productions on labels like Hysteria and Spinnin' Records, honing a sound that blended classic house elements with the rising electro house energy of the era.

Breakthrough

Bingo Players' breakthrough arrived in 2011 with the instrumental track "Cry (Just a Little)," which sampled Brenda Russell's "Piano in the Dark" and became a club favorite. This set the stage for their defining moment: the 2013 release of "Get Up (Rattle)" featuring vocalist Far East Movement. The track became a global phenomenon, topping dance charts and achieving platinum certifications in multiple countries, cementing their status in the EDM boom.

Key tracks

Get Up (Rattle) - This collaboration with Far East Movement became the duo's signature hit, crossing over from clubs to mainstream radio and achieving multi-platinum success worldwide.

Cry (Just a Little) - A pivotal instrumental track that built their early reputation, showcasing their skill at crafting emotive, sample-driven progressive house.

Rattle - The original instrumental version that formed the backbone of the later vocal hit, demonstrating the powerful, minimalist production that defined their peak sound.

Following the massive success of "Get Up (Rattle)," Bingo Players continued to release music and perform at major festivals. The duo's dynamic was tragically altered when Paul Bäumer was diagnosed with cancer; he passed away in late 2013. Maarten Hoogstraten chose to continue the Bingo Players project as a tribute, releasing new music and honoring their shared legacy in the electronic dance world.

Artists with a similar Dutch house and electro house style include Martin Garrix, who also emerged from the Netherlands' vibrant EDM scene to achieve global chart dominance. The big-room sound can be heard in the work of Hardwell, another Dutch DJ/producer known for his anthemic festival tracks. For a different take on progressive house, listeners might explore Nickey Romero, who also found international success from the Netherlands.
