Creed: American Post-Grunge Rock

Creed is an American rock band that rose to massive commercial success in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Hailing from Tallahassee, Florida, the band achieved multi-platinum status with their first two albums, becoming a defining act of the post-grunge era.

Early career

Creed was formed in 1994 by vocalist Scott Stapp and guitarist Mark Tremonti, who were classmates at Florida State University. The lineup was rounded out by bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Phillips, and the band began building a local following through intense touring across the American South.

Breakthrough

The band's 1997 debut album, My Own Prison, was initially self-released before being picked up by Wind-up Records. Fueled by heavy radio play for its title track and other singles, the album was certified 6x platinum in the United States, a stunning achievement for a debut.

Creed reunited in 2009 for a successful tour and released the album Full Circle, which debuted at number two. However, the reunion was short-lived, and the members have since focused on other projects, including Alter Bridge and Scott Stapp's solo career. Their legacy remains cemented by staggering sales figures, with over 28 million albums sold in the United States alone.
