Virtual Reality mit Eigenbau-Hardware (clt26)

Mit den SlimeVR Butterfly Trackern, dem Bitcraze Lighthouse Deck, HadesVR und der Wireless Vive with an Orange Pi (kein Aprilscherz) gibt es einige eigenbaufreundliche Hardwareprojekte im Bereich Virtual Reality. Ich habe mich entschlossen, einige dieser Projekte mit Veränderungen nachzubauen. Diese Systeme lassen sich prinzipiell unter GNU/Linux betreiben, auch auf einer Talos II Workstation mit POWER9-Prozesssor, auf dem die unfreie Software (z. B. SteamVR) nicht läuft. Auch die Valve Index ist mit Monado und z. B. Godot Beep Saber VR verwendbar, die Selbstbaubrille noch nicht. Dieser Vortrag erläutert die Funktionsweise der vier Systeme sowie deren Nachbaubarkeit und gibt einen Überblick über die Software und die verwendeten Hardwarekomponenten. Alle Systeme lassen sich mit Freier Software betreiben, teilweise war dafür Reverse Engineering (z. B. libsurvive) notwendig.
