200 Cheers for #ciderGoingUP

200 Cheers for #ciderGoingUP

Author: Ria Windcaller: Award-winning Cidermaker, Podcaster | Craft Beer Columnist November 13, 2019 Duration: 58:50

#ciderGoingUP is a favored hashtag that I have been using since the first year of this podcast, so it was a natural title for this milestone episode number 200.

Some podcasters pod fade (end their shows quietly and never return), I on the other hand have plenty of episode cued up and ready to share - so this episode 200 is really just the beginning of more good cider cheer.

As usual the Talking Pommes add their two cents here and there and Cider Chat fans share their rendition of the cider song "We Like Cider".

The featured chat is a conversation with The Nose begins at 18 minutes in and helped direct this conversation as we looked back over Season 4 and to the future in 2020.

Topics discussed with "The Nose"

  • How our palate changes. One day we may want sweet and then the next day we embrace a "barnyard" style.
  • What is the newest cider trend as seen at Franklin County CiderDays
  • More wild yeast ferments or what is more technically called 'ambient yeast".
  • The Dry Cider Trend is growing.
  • Never underestimate the cider consumer.
  • Is Cider Chat growing?
  • How the apple breakdowns country politics and show us that we are all dealing with the same concerns and revelations about making cider.
  • Terroir and how it is now being embraced by consumers and makers.
  • How does a consumer know they are getting a quality product if the cider is packaged in a can.
  • FAM tours are on the rise for Cider Chat - such as the recent tour to the Finger Lakes.
  • Cider Delilah?
  • 2nd Annual New England Cider Tour highlights
  • More cider tours coming up in 2020.
    • CiderCon2020 Parajo Valley Tour, England and France
    • Contact ria@ciderchat.com to get your name on the list for the upcoming 2020 tours
  • Cider Chat Swag Store is open at Teepublic.
    • Find t-shirt, hoodies, kids clothing and even smart phone cover cases with catchy cider sayings like:

There’s a whole world in a glass of cider, and Cider Chat is your invitation to explore it. Hosted by award-winning cidermaker and writer Ria Windcaller, this podcast travels far beyond the bottle to meet the people who make the global cider culture so vibrant. Each conversation is a journey-you might find yourself in a heritage orchard learning the history of forgotten apple varieties, in a bustling taproom with an importer explaining regional traditions, or in a kitchen with a chef pairing cider with unexpected foods. The discussions get into the delightful nuances, too, whether that’s the semantics of what we even call this drink or how the concept of terroir translates from soil to sip. It’s not just about production; it’s about the community, the travel, and the stories that fermentation unlocks. This is for anyone curious about the craft, history, and sheer enjoyment of fermented apple juice in all its forms. So, pour a glass and settle in for a series that feels like a wide-ranging, informative, and genuinely good-humored chat with friends who happen to be obsessed with cider. You’ll come away with a deeper appreciation for every effervescent, tart, or sweet sip, hearing directly from the growers, makers, and enthusiasts who are shaping this drink’s exciting present and future.
