The Surf Wala story with Jonathan Young | Episode 04

The Surf Wala story with Jonathan Young | Episode 04

Author: Goa.me June 3, 2020 Duration: 39:54

In this episode we catch up with Jonathan Young - surf instructor & founder of Surf Wala, an international surf school located on a beautiful stretch of Arambol beach in the North of Goa.

Follow along as Jono takes us on his journey from learning to surf in Goa on a borrowed board to teaching and ultimately building a business his own way.

With everything from daily to 5 day surf lessons for both kids & adults to board rentals & seasonal cottage accommodations, Surf Wala has certainly evolved into a thriving community all its own. And thanks to Jono, his wonderful wife B and their international team of qualified instructors, the potentially intimidating task of learning to surf could not be any more welcoming!

And when it comes to sourcing your equipment - Jono recommends: Surf Wala rentals, the Vaayu Village surf shop in neighbouring Ashwem or Decathlon in Calangute.

Jono also mentions the work of Russian artist Elena Grib (@oh_ocean), who painted all the floors of Surf Wala's 5 cottages as seen here!

To learn more, be sure to check out their website: www.surfwala.com and follow @surfwala on Instagram & Facebook.

Enjoy & thanks for listening!

The sound of the sea is a constant rhythm here, but the real heartbeat of Goa comes from its people. This monthly podcast from the team behind Goa.me moves beyond the postcard imagery to find the stories woven into the fabric of everyday life. Each episode is a quiet exploration, a conversation held on a veranda or a walk through a market, listening to the fishermen, artists, shopkeepers, and families who call this place home. You’ll hear the subtle shifts in tradition, the personal histories behind a beloved recipe, and the quiet challenges that exist alongside the celebrated beauty. Hosted by the creators of Goa's largest online community, the Goa podcast draws from a deep well of connection and curiosity.
