Finding Joy, Connection and Freedom Within Structure

Kelly Edwards is the creator of the 90-Minute School Day.  A lifestyle approach to education.  The 90-Minute School Day method connects children with learning in their natural environment: at home with their family.  It is designed for pre-K through 6th grade.

Kelly is passionate about home education, connecting families through attachment, learning as a lifestyle and helping children (and parents) identify their purpose.  Kelly is entering her 7th year as a homeschool mom, she lives in the Shenandoah Valley of WV with her husband and 3 girls ages 13, 6, and 3.  She is a licensed foster parent, successful entrepreneur, and community citizen.  She uses her personal and professional experience to guide the homeschooling parent with a framework and system to overcome the overwhelm that affects each of us.  You can learn more about her by visiting www.90minuteschoolday.com or follow her on Instagram at @90minuteschoolday.

Have you ever met someone that you seem to connect with pretty quickly, despite the circumstances? What about on social media? Kelly and I met on the social app, Clubhouse and even though we live in two different countries we found our paths crossing. We connected on a personal level and have been in touch regularly ever since. (It's pretty cool how our world works now, isn't it?) As a fellow homeschooling parent who's underlying values match many of mine, I wanted to have Kelly on the show. And of course, Kelly brought a huge amount of value, tools and personal experience to this episode.

In This Episode-Finding Joy, Connection and Freedom within Structure

In this episode Kelly spoke to why they have chosen to homeschool their 3 children. The choice for them was not a change in lifestyle but a need they saw for their children~Greater attachment. Kelly's family homeschool is based on the foundation of emotional attachment and connection, faith and freedom. Kelly says that if we are not feeling the emotional connection, then our learning stops. Kelly has also found a framework and flow to their days that she says as a business owner and homeschool parent, allows her to find joy, connection and freedom within structure.

In this episode we spoke to;

  • Connection and resiliency
  • Living education and living life together
  • What homeschooling looks like for child and parent in their home and what that includes- play, empathy, adventuring, working, talking, facilitating
  • The 90 minute structure and finding freedom within structure
  • Being intentional when framing your day
  • The Circadian cycle and how Kelly intentionally creates their days to reflect the cycle, rest and seasons
  • How to set up your child for success
  • Kelly's advice on Deschooling and ways we can access freedom, calm, confidence and connection this summer and beyond

Confidence, Calm and Connection- How To Be An Awesome Homeschooler

Kelly and I have been working on a new project together this summer. It's the first Homeschooling Summit to be featured on Clubhouse and it's called How To Be An Awesome Homeschooler. The summit runs August 6th and is based on 3 cornerstone themes of homeschooling; Confidence, Calm and Connection. We have a keynote speaker for each theme along with interactive Q&A's with each speaker as well as further discussions with Kelly and I. (That means a space to get your questions answered, air your doubts and connect with others in real time!!)

Gina Riley, professor and unschooling parent to a grown unschooler, will be speaking to the theme of Confidence. Demetria Giles, educator, consultant and single homeschool mom will speak to Calm and Rachel Rainbolt, gentle parenting, natural homeschooling, and simple living mentor will speak to Connection.

The summit is open to anyone that would like to join on Clubhouse. But to receive the recordings, freebies and special giveaways, you have to register for the free summit. To register go here.
