I Feel Attacked... featuring Franklin Alzate | episode 25 |

Author: Janine Jimenez May 3, 2021 Duration: 1:45:27
There's nothing more revealing and visceral than a book that brings out your biggest childhood insecurities while, simultaneously, motivating you to strive even harder to accomplish your goals. Today's episode talks about the first few chapters of A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, and I take a few excerpts out of the book to discuss with one of my lifelong friends, Franklin Alzate. He is an aspiring physician, a proud Corgi owner, and a burger connoisseur. We talk about having parents who are immigrants, our upbringings, and some of those unpopular opinions mentioned in our latest Instagram questionnaire.  In honor of Asian American Pacific Islander Month, I will be reading this book throughout the month of May and will be doing a weekly "book study" as I progress towards the end! I would love for you guys to join me; if you wanted to pick up and read along, this episode covers up to page 101, or chapter 1 in Part II: The Postman. I would love to discuss and do another episode with me (who is reading along) next Sunday! Please like, subscribe, follow and share this podcast on twitter @JanineBTL and on Instagram @janinebetweenthelines, or shoot me an email for any questions at janinebetweenthelines@gmail.com. I love love love hearing from you guys, and of course, eternally appreciate your ongoing support. You all are the best, and I hope you're having a wonderful day. Happy listening 🌼

There's a particular kind of conversation that happens when you're curled up with a friend, a cup of coffee, and a head full of thoughts about the book you just finished or the odd little moment from your day that stuck with you. Janine Between the Lines: literature & lifestyle for leisure captures that feeling. Hosted by Janine Jimenez, this podcast feels like a series of those candid, meandering talks. As a Filipina-American, Janine brings a specific lens to the books she discusses, the current issues she unpacks, and those daily, somewhat trivial dilemmas we all ponder but rarely voice. The charm here is in the blend; a deep dive into a novel might seamlessly give way to a personal reflection on culture, society, or the small absurdities of modern life. She describes it as semi-entertaining and playfully warns that the whole endeavor might be a platform for connection or simply a verbal scapegoat-the possibilities are endless. What you'll hear is genuine and unscripted, a space where literature intersects with the realities of a multifaceted lifestyle. It’s less about formal analysis and more about where the lines between stories, identity, and everyday observations blur, creating a unique point of connection for listeners from all backgrounds. Tune in for a thoughtful, often witty, and always human take on the words we read and the world we navigate.
