Key Africans Unlocked Ep 13 - Mulenga Brian Mutale

Author: PodHouse June 29, 2018 Duration: 53:08
Mulenga Brian Mutale is President and CEO of Aguilar Capital Markets Ltd, a Canadian investment bank he founded to provide capital for African companies.  Born in Zambia and educated at Acadia University in Canada, Brian pursued a financial services career before recognizing the opportunity that his business is built on when he took a job with a bank in Zambia in 2010. A recent success Brian's company has notched is raising $250 Million USD in debt capital for an African petroleum group in Ghana. He assures us that this is the first of many a deal. He is based in Canada but the frequency of his travels across the continent make it feel like he is a Canadian resident in name only and lives at 40,000 feet more than anywhere else. Outside of his business, he is an avid football fan who has played quite seriously and coached a local team in his home city (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia).  We spoke about his journey to his business' genesis and other experiences along that road.

Hosted by Zubz The Last Letta and Chilu Lemba, Key Africans Unlocked is a series of conversations that feel more like catching up with old friends than a formal interview. This podcast from PodHouse sits at the vibrant intersection of society and culture, offering a microphone to Africans, both on the continent and across the diaspora, who are actively shaping their fields and communities. Each guest brings a unique story, not just of professional achievement, but of personal passion and the deliberate choice to contribute something meaningful. You’ll hear from an eclectic mix of thinkers, creators, and doers, all united by a compelling drive. Listening to this podcast is an exercise in perspective-it’s about understanding the diverse ways people navigate their lives, interpret the world around them, and define their own place within it. The dialogue goes beyond surface-level success to uncover the motivations, challenges, and philosophies that guide these individuals. It’s a space for genuine discovery, where every episode promises a deeper insight into the lived experiences that are building a dynamic, modern African narrative. The result is a collection of stories that are as informative as they are inspiring, reminding us of the vast tapestry of life being woven across the globe.
