06-07-2025-Man Enough to Feel: Part 1 The Truth About Black Men & Mental Health

Author: KMOJ-89.9 FM “The People’s Station” June 16, 2025 Duration: 1:02:08

For generations, Black men have been told to “man up,” “suck it up,” or worse—“just pray about it.” But what happens when the pain runs deeper than prayer alone can fix? When silence becomes a survival tactic, and vulnerability is seen as weakness? June is Black Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s time we talk about it—really talk.

Why is it that in our communities, therapy is often seen as taboo, while trauma is treated like tradition? Why do our brothers carry the weight of the world with no outlet, no blueprint, and barely any resources?

We want to shift that. Because silence is killing us—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

This month, we’re breaking that silence. Let’s dismantle the myths, confront the cultural norms, and build a space where healing isn’t just possible—it’s necessary.

From the studios of KMOJ-89.9 FM “The People’s Station” in Minneapolis comes KMOJ's Community Viewpoint, a series of conversations rooted in nearly five decades of community connection. This podcast extends the station's legacy beyond the radio dial, creating a dedicated space for discussions that matter deeply to the communities of color it serves. Each episode delves into the issues, stories, and perspectives that directly impact collective health and well-being, from local initiatives to broader cultural shifts. You’ll hear authentic dialogue that reflects the lived experiences of the community, fostering understanding and highlighting paths forward. The tone is informed by the station's long history, having first gone on the air in 1976, and carries the same commitment to being a genuine resource. It’s more than just a broadcast; it’s a continuing conversation for and by the people, capturing the contemporary pulse of urban life and community advocacy through thoughtful, necessary dialogue.
