Alfred Beilhartz - Rocky Mountain National Park

Author: Locations Unknown July 11, 2019 Duration: 50:49
July 2nd, 1938, 4-year-old Alfred Beilhartz is camping with family and friends in Rocky Mountain National Park. Alfred and his father went to the nearby Fall River to bathe and prepare for the start of their day. When Alfred ran off to spend time with other campers in their party, he was never seen again.  In the hours following his disappearance over a 150 searchers and bloodhounds scoured the surrounding area, diverted river waters, and drained a nearby reservoir, sadly turning up no sign of Alfred. Even stranger, hikers reported possible sightings of Alfred thousands of feet up from Fall River on a treacherous ledge named Devils Nest.  When the hikers reached Devils Nest there was no sign of him. What happened to Alfred? What did the hikers see? How could a 4 year old hike thousands of feet in only a few hours? Join us this week as we cover the mysterious disappearance of Alfred Beilhartz and try to figure out what happened. Locations Unknown ventures into the silent, vast spaces where people have simply gone missing. Hosts Mike & Joe guide each episode through a specific case, piecing together timelines from the final known moments, through the often-frustrating official searches, and into the lingering questions that haunt families and park rangers alike. This isn't just a true crime podcast; it’s a close look at the intersection of human error, unpredictable nature, and the peculiar geography of places like dense national forests and isolated mountain ranges that can swallow a person whole. You’ll hear about the decisions made in the critical hours, the terrain that complicated everything, and the community of experts and amateurs who keep looking. The show naturally explores how these landscapes, while beautiful, hold secrets, making the wilderness itself a central character in every story. Tune in for a respectful, detailed examination of stories that end not with a conclusion, but with an open map and a deepened mystery. The podcast digs into the cultural fascination with these vanishings and what they reveal about our relationship with the wild, remote corners of the country.
