Tom Messick - Lake George Wilderness Area NY

Author: Locations Unknown October 13, 2019 Duration: 50:36
On November 16th, 2015 seven men set out to hunt Lily Pond Road at the Lake George Wilderness Area in Upstate New York . The men were all experienced hunters, had communication devices, were not far from their camp, and were on a commonly used road. After hunting for a couple of hours the group decided to return to their cars. Tom Messick, who was sitting in one spot about 40 yards from the main road, was never seen or heard from again.  The following day, an extensive search and rescue operation was launched in the immediate area of his disappearance. At the peak of the search, over 50 organizations and upwards of 300 searchers were trying to find Tom. The search failed to find Tom or any evidence he had even been in the woods that day. How could an experienced hunter have gone missing in such a short period of time? Why did two FBI agents show up? Join us this week as we piece together the bizarre details behind the disappearance of Tom and search efforts that followed.  This episode is brought to you by Verdure, a company that strives to offer only the highest quality and locally sourced CBD products all made in the USA.    Learn about other unsolved missing persons cases in America's wilderness at Locations Unknown. Locations Unknown ventures into the silent, vast spaces where people have simply gone missing. Hosts Mike & Joe guide each episode through a specific case, piecing together timelines from the final known moments, through the often-frustrating official searches, and into the lingering questions that haunt families and park rangers alike. This isn't just a true crime podcast; it’s a close look at the intersection of human error, unpredictable nature, and the peculiar geography of places like dense national forests and isolated mountain ranges that can swallow a person whole. You’ll hear about the decisions made in the critical hours, the terrain that complicated everything, and the community of experts and amateurs who keep looking. The show naturally explores how these landscapes, while beautiful, hold secrets, making the wilderness itself a central character in every story. Tune in for a respectful, detailed examination of stories that end not with a conclusion, but with an open map and a deepened mystery. The podcast digs into the cultural fascination with these vanishings and what they reveal about our relationship with the wild, remote corners of the country.
