Otomen / Dr. Stone

Otomen / Dr. Stone

Apologies for my audio issues this episode. Skype decided to reset every setting I had ever set it to, and then when I changed them, I did not restart my recording app, which just remembers the first thing I selected, but does not update to every subsequent thing I entered. I cleaned up some background noise that was going on as a result of me having to really crank up my own audio to make it audible at all, but it still sounds far away and tinny. I can do nothing about this, beyond re-recording all my audio with my good microphone I guess? But I'm not gonna do that. The content is there...albeit poorly. This episode, we're talking about Aya Kanno's Otomen and Riichiro Inagaki (story) and Boichi's (art) Dr. Stone, both published by Viz Media. The songs you heard in this episode are "Good Morning World!" by BURNOUT SYNDROMES and "Life" by Rude-α, both from the Dr. Stone anime. As always, you can find me on Twitter @ImpassionateK, and my co-hosts Helen (@WanderinDreamr) and Apryll (@manjiorin) on Twitter at those places in the parenthesis. You can find both of their writing at The Organization of Anti-Social Geniuses, more of Helen's writing at Narrative Investigations, and my writing at the Fandom Post. Read my reviews of Dr. Stone over at the Fandom Post: Volume 1, volume 2, volume 3, volume 4, volume 5, volume 6, volume 7, volume 8, volume 9. Listen Show notes: 0:33 - We talk about Otomen! 11:36 - We talk about Dr. Stone! Next time is a surprise.

Every three weeks, the hosts of Manga in Your Ears-Kory, Helen, and Apryll-settle in for a conversation that bridges the classic and the contemporary. Their format is straightforward but deeply engaging: they dive into one manga series that has already reached its conclusion, offering a full perspective on its story and impact. Then, they shift to discuss a different series that is either freshly finished or still unfolding in real time, capturing the immediate excitement of ongoing publication. This dual focus creates a unique rhythm, allowing for thoughtful retrospectives alongside the lively speculation that comes with following current releases. The discussions feel less like formal reviews and more like the kind of talk you’d have with friends who share a deep passion for the medium, dissecting character arcs, artistic choices, and narrative twists. Produced by Taiiku Podcast, this series sits comfortably at the intersection of Arts and Books, designed for anyone who appreciates the depth and diversity of manga storytelling. Tuning into this podcast is like getting a curated, bi-monthly guide to what’s worth reading, from timeless titles you might have missed to the latest chapters everyone is talking about.
