Season 5 Ep 10: Telling Stories & Getting Curious with Shannon Whaley

Season 5 Ep 10: Telling Stories & Getting Curious with Shannon Whaley

Author: Lisa Kuzman June 17, 2021 Duration: 47:24

I hope you're ready to be delighted this week, because my guest today is the one, the only, the amazing Shannon Whaley. She's a Professional Certified Coach on a mission to help women get their message and magic out into the world — no hustle or burnout necessary. Shannon believes in putting pleasure and play first, and she walks that talk as she lives out her Eat, Pray, Love dream in Italy.

I had an absolute blast during this conversation as we talked all about:

  • how she ended up in Italy (and met her husband)
  • giving f*cks without giving f*cks
  • intention and authenticity in business
  • some ins and outs of the coaching industry
  • how no level of income or education will erase impostor syndrome

"My clients say, I can't wait until I don't have to deal with this anymore. And I'm like — hold up. I can't wait until *I* don't have to deal with this anymore! I still have the same brain that tells me that I suck, that this isn't going to work, that my story is stupid and people don't care... Income level, certificates, training... I still get impostor syndrome. So I remind myself, oh, that's probably your trauma telling you that things aren't working. The difference is, it's not that it doesn't happen anymore, it's that we have tools to help us not spin out. We know how to pull ourselves out. That's the difference."

Shannon, thank you so much for joining me on the podcast this week! To find out more about Shannon, head on over to shannonwhaley.com and prepare for that "oh HELL yes" feeling.

There's a quiet shift happening in how we think about authority and influence, and New Wave Leadership Podcast is right at the heart of it. Host Lisa Kuzman believes traditional, top-down leadership models have run their course, proving ineffective for today's complex world. Instead, this movement champions a much broader, more inclusive vision. Each episode digs into the real, often unspoken challenges that come with stepping into a role of influence, whether you're in a corner office, a community group, or simply leading your own life. The conversations here actively work to expand our definition of who gets to be a leader, arguing passionately for the necessity of diverse identities, perspectives, and lived experiences at the helm. You'll hear frank discussions about authenticity, the personal hurdles leaders navigate behind closed doors, and practical ideas for cultivating your own unique leadership identity without conforming to outdated standards. Tuning into this podcast feels like joining a necessary dialogue-one that moves beyond theory to explore what it genuinely means to show up and make an impact on your own terms.
