Season 5 Ep 4: Dr Jen Barna on Risk-taking, Visibility, and Embracing Failure

Season 5 Ep 4: Dr Jen Barna on Risk-taking, Visibility, and Embracing Failure

Author: Lisa Kuzman May 27, 2021 Duration: 39:34

Welcome back to another interview on Serving it HOT! This week, I spoke with Dr. Jen Barna, practicing radiologist and founder and CEO of DocWorking.com. DocWorking is a platform that specializes in coaching physicians by bringing the best coaches in the industry together onto one team. In 2016, she started her business, Qelse, which is an ecommerce boutique that creates designer walker/mobility bags, stroller bags and caddies.

I was particularly excited to chat with Jen because of her combination of experience in medicine and the entrepreneurial world. Together we discussed:

  • How her learnings in medicine translated to entrepreneurship — and the areas where she needed to think differently
  • Why she's so passionate about supporting physicians
  • Creating a space that encourages empathy and vulnerability
  • How her views on failure have evolved over time
  • Time spent strategizing vs executing

and a whole lot more!

Jen, I'm so glad you could join me on the show this week. Want more from Jen? After you visit DocWorking.com, you should also check out DocWorking: The Whole Physician Podcast, hosted by Jen and the two lead coaches, Gabriella Dennery MD and Master Certified Coach Jill Farmer. The show is currently ranked 9th on the list of "Top 25 Physicians Podcasts You Must Follow in 2021." And don't forget to visit https://www.qelse.shop to see all the gorgeous bags and totes.

There's a quiet shift happening in how we think about authority and influence, and New Wave Leadership Podcast is right at the heart of it. Host Lisa Kuzman believes traditional, top-down leadership models have run their course, proving ineffective for today's complex world. Instead, this movement champions a much broader, more inclusive vision. Each episode digs into the real, often unspoken challenges that come with stepping into a role of influence, whether you're in a corner office, a community group, or simply leading your own life. The conversations here actively work to expand our definition of who gets to be a leader, arguing passionately for the necessity of diverse identities, perspectives, and lived experiences at the helm. You'll hear frank discussions about authenticity, the personal hurdles leaders navigate behind closed doors, and practical ideas for cultivating your own unique leadership identity without conforming to outdated standards. Tuning into this podcast feels like joining a necessary dialogue-one that moves beyond theory to explore what it genuinely means to show up and make an impact on your own terms.
