Long time listeners of the podcast will probably remember today's guest: Katherine Creighton Crook! Katherine is a multi award winning sports and remedial massage therapist who has combined physical body work with visceral manipulation and her intuitive ability to create a new approach to releasing pain. Back in season 4, she spoke beautifully about the relationship between trauma, pain, and bodywork. (Have a listen here!) Today, I'm excited to welcome her back on the show to hear about her experiences with READY!
 
During our conversation, we touched on:
  • What made her decide to opt in to READY 
  • Holding space for someone rather than trying to "fix" them
  • Her experiences with READY — including the unexpected things that came up
  • Creating a space where you can safely show up as your whole self

"One thing that I didn't expect, but is super obvious in retrospect knowing you personally, was to experience such a high level of safety in the container. It's something that everyone commented on too, but I found it really interesting because I've been in a number of different coaching experiences where I thought I would feel safe but didn't. 

The level of vulnerability that showed up in the classes and weekly calls is nothing like I've ever seen before and that's an indicator of how safe READY actually is. Everyone, every experience and emotion was given space equally. To be trauma sensitive is to not only let people be their whole self but to accept all parts of their humanity. However if you've never experienced being accepted as your whole self it doesnt feel safe to show up and show all your parts especially in a professional capacity. There are so few places where you don't have to worry about the consequences of being your whole self. 

So to have nine months where you're shown through experience that you can show up and be all of yourself without fear of judgment, shaming, or minimizing. A space where you can be happy one day, sad the next and even feel frustrated with yourself in the midst of your messy humanity - and not have people think any differently about you, that equipts you to be trauma sensitive in a way you can carry forward to others. And that's what you did, through role modeling your own vulnerability and creating this space we got to experience that level of safety."
