Season 8 Episode 9: Letting Your Humanity Come Through with Jill Farmer

Season 8 Episode 9: Letting Your Humanity Come Through with Jill Farmer

Author: Lisa Kuzman November 17, 2022 Duration: 40:13

I'm going to finish out season 8 with a bit of a throwback to season 1, when I was in the hot seat with my amazing friend, Jill Farmer. (I hope all my newer listeners will check that out here: https://www.lisakuzman.com/podcast-archive/episode-20-staying-authentic-when-sht-gets-real-my-turn-in-the-hot-seat)

After the way this year has gone for me, it felt like the perfect time to revisit the concept — and Jill is even back for round 2!

First, a quick refresh on Jill: she's a master certified time and stress management coach, as well as the author of the bestselling There's Not Enough Time... and Other Lies We Tell Ourselves. You may know her from pieces she's had published in The Washington Post or Inc. Magazine (among others!) or the podcast she co-hosts, "DocWorking: The Whole Physician Podcast."

On this episode, Jill and I really drill down into the theme of "it's okay to not be okay" and the process of applying this to my life. We'll talk about:

  • What happens when all the coping mechanisms you've curated over years, if not decades, just... stop working
  • Why aren't we as kind to ourselves as we are to others, when it comes to our own "not-okayness"?
  • How important — and f*cking hard — it is to show up when you're not okay

...which is exactly why I'm going first.

Thank you so much to Jill for coming back to put me in the hot seat one more time. Thank you, also, to everyone who tuned in for season 8. It definitely didn't unfold the way I expected it to, and I'm so glad you could be here with me as it did.

Season 8 may be over, but I'm not going anywhere. Come on over to my website, https://www.lisakuzman.com, or check out what services I offer here: bit.ly/coachkuz-services

There's a quiet shift happening in how we think about authority and influence, and New Wave Leadership Podcast is right at the heart of it. Host Lisa Kuzman believes traditional, top-down leadership models have run their course, proving ineffective for today's complex world. Instead, this movement champions a much broader, more inclusive vision. Each episode digs into the real, often unspoken challenges that come with stepping into a role of influence, whether you're in a corner office, a community group, or simply leading your own life. The conversations here actively work to expand our definition of who gets to be a leader, arguing passionately for the necessity of diverse identities, perspectives, and lived experiences at the helm. You'll hear frank discussions about authenticity, the personal hurdles leaders navigate behind closed doors, and practical ideas for cultivating your own unique leadership identity without conforming to outdated standards. Tuning into this podcast feels like joining a necessary dialogue-one that moves beyond theory to explore what it genuinely means to show up and make an impact on your own terms.
