Steve McKnight: From Cry Wolf to GayC/DC and Beyond

Tucked away in basements, closets, and forgotten tape reels is a whole world of music that never found its audience. Off the Charts Music Podcast, hosted by Art Gerckens and Lisa J Landone, is an excavation project for your ears. Each episode pulls a specific era into the light, focusing primarily on the raw, original sounds of unsigned local bands from the 1970s, '80s, and '90s. This isn't about nostalgia for its own sake; it's about discovery. You'll hear the stories behind these bands-the gigs, the recording sessions, the near-misses-interwoven with the music itself, rescued from physical obscurity and given a new digital life. The conversations in this podcast naturally delve into the creative spirit of regional scenes, asking what "making it" really meant before the internet. Listening feels like being handed a meticulously curated mixtape from a friend who knows exactly where to dig. For anyone who believes the best songs aren't always the famous ones, this series offers a genuine, human connection to the artists who made music for the sheer need to create it, providing a fresh and authentic archive of sound that truly deserves to be heard.
