Louise: Surviving an eating disorder and COVID-19 (Plus, a special interview with Hillary)

Author: CBC June 20, 2020 Duration: 34:43
Louise had to be hospitalized because of anorexia. In the hospital, she contracted COVID-19 and has had to be isolated for weeks. She and Hillary speak compassionately to the eating disorder part of Louise for how it has helped her cope with her suffering, and ask it to move aside so that the real Louise, the parts of her that want to live fully, can begin to take over. Plus, we hear a candid interview with Hillary, who has personal experience with an eating disorder. NOTE: This conversation was recorded over video conferencing software over weak hospital wifi, and the audio quality is hard to understand at times. We’ve done our best to improve it but recommend listening in a quiet space with good headphones.

There’s a unique intimacy in hearing someone else’s most private conversations, especially when they occur in a therapist’s office. Other People’s Problems, from CBC, removes that fourth wall entirely, inviting you into real, unscripted therapy sessions. This season, psychologist Dr. Hillary McBride focuses on a particularly profound frontier in mental health: the use of psychedelics in a controlled therapeutic setting. You’ll hear Dr. Hillary’s expert guidance as she supports clients through drug-assisted therapy, navigating deep-seated trauma and emotional blockages. The conversations are raw, vulnerable, and often surprising, capturing moments of breakthrough and introspection as they happen. It’s not just about the substances; it’s about the structured, compassionate process that facilitates healing. This podcast provides a rare look at how alternative therapeutic approaches can unlock new pathways for understanding and recovery. By listening, you gain a profound appreciation for the complexity of the human psyche and the courageous work of facing one’s own pain. Each episode is a journey into someone’s personal world, handled with remarkable care and clinical insight, making for compelling and deeply human audio.
