Brady Howe on 3×3 Basketball, Mental Performance, and Life After the NBA

Brady Howe on 3×3 Basketball, Mental Performance, and Life After the NBA

Author: Mike Robertson September 12, 2025 Duration: 56:36

What happens AFTER you attain a lifetime goal?

You see this all the time in Olympians – they train their entire life to go to the games, and if they’re lucky, maybe they even win.

But once that time is over, what happens next?

Well it may not have been going to the Olympics, but Brady Howe has real experience on this front!

Brady dedicated his life to working in the NBA, spending 10 years between the G-League and NBA, and his final 6 serving as the VP of Health and Performance for the Phoenix Suns.

But in pro sports sometimes situations change – and sometimes YOU change along with it, and that’s what we’re going to dive into today.

Quotable Quotes:

Life’s got different chapters and phases that are more important.

—–

Confidence is a skill, resilience is a skill, focus is a skill.

—–

You have to start somewhere and build and it has to be done consistently.

This Week on the Physical Prep Podcast:

  • What Brady’s been up to, and what it was like transitioning from the NBA to his newest phase in life.
  • Why there are inherent pros and cons to every level of sport, even at the NBA level.
  • What it’s like going from managing 15 athletes in the NBA to over 500 at Grand Canyon!
  • How he originally got into the mental performance space, and why he’s now pursuing a Ph.D. in this space.
  • The 3 levels of mental health and performance, and the various roles each practitioner can/should play.
  • An outline of his new gig with USA Basketball, and the differences between 3×3 Hoops and traditional games.
  • Brady’s thoughts on balancing all of the thing he has on his plate, including family life, GCU responsibilities, working for 3×3 AND getting his Ph.D.
  • We wrap up with some solid talk on coffee culture, which every coffee lover absolutely MUST check out!
