Was Peter the First Pope?

Was Peter the First Pope?

Author: A rational defence for classic Christian belief September 14, 2024 Duration: 18:02

A critical analysis of the Biblical data and the beliefs in the early church. If the Bible nor the early church actually support the idea of the apostle Peter being a pope, let alone the first one, then the very foundation of Roman Catholicism cannot be upheld.

In this podcast, I review the main arguments used by the Roman Catholic apologists, the bible passages they cite in favour and the quotes by early Church fathers they refer to, in support. The main Bible passage they quote from does not support their view, nor do early Church fathers agree with the Roman Catholic interpretation of this passage.

In the next episode, I will review the issue of “apostolic succession.” These two doctrines form the basis of the notion put forward by Roman Catholics that they are the “One True Church.” If these two arguments fail, the whole tree built on them as a foundation is in danger of collapsing.
