Prior to Brave, Yan was a Senior Security Engineer at Yahoo working on end-to-end email encryption, and a Staff Technologist at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, where she worked on open source projects such as HTTPS Everywhere and Let's Encrypt. She has also served on the W3C Technical Architecture Group and DEF CON talks review board.
