Sonya Collins is a freelance journalist in the health and medicine industry. She’s now been freelancing for over 12 years and a regular contributor for Fortune and WebMD and she’s also written for Scientific American.

We connected while working from the same co-working in Chiang Mai and I’m really excited I got to talk to her and find out more about her freelance journey.

In this episode, we discuss how Sonya is managing her projects, niching down and her approach to understanding the needs and desires of different reader demographics.

We also discuss the misconception that permanent roles are more secure than being a freelancer.

Sonya also talks about the skills needed to be a successful freelancer. She’s sharing her experiences of adapting her writing style for different audiences, how she finds clients and the challenges she faced in the past as a freelancer.
