On this week’s episode Paul and Cody welcome Aboriginal LGBTIQA+ community member, health educator and artist, Peter Waples-Crowe, to the JOY 94.9 studios for our NAIDOC Week show. NAIDOC Week is an annual event when Australia’s First peoples and their allies celebrate the rich culture, strength, resilience, and contribution of Australia’s First Nations communities.
This week’s NAIDOC episode explores subjects and experiences such as invisibility and erasure, the impact of colonisation on First Nations languages, oral history and social structures, the importance of social, emotional and culturally safe spaces for First nations intersex people to disclose having an innate variation of sex characteristics, the importance of NAIDOC week, and also, Peter’s art and the role art has played in Peter’s journey as an Aboriginal gay man.
