Russian Language Lesson 3 – At the bar.

How to work with a mini-story:

 • Read the text

 • Listen and answer the questions OUT LOUD (you don't need to provide the full answer, just yes and no would work for now)

 • Re-tell the story yourself out loud

Grammar:

And we stay at the same level of grammar here!

'Есть' means 'to be'.

'Вот' is the word we usually say when pointing at something.

Text in Russian:

Добро́ пожа́ловать в бар. Тут есть во́дка, ви́ски, бре́нди и скотч. Вот кока-ко́ла и вода́.

Text in English:

Welcome to the bar. There is vodka, whiskey, brandy and scotch. Here's Coca-Cola and water.

Daria Molchanova from the Real Russian Club hosts TPRS Russian-Effortless Russian, a podcast built around a specific and engaging language acquisition technique. The core idea is that you absorb grammar and build vocabulary not through memorization, but by following compelling, often humorous, narratives. Each episode presents a story in Russian, followed by simple questions designed to check your comprehension and solidify the language structures in your mind. This method, known as Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling, aims to make the learning process feel more like an enjoyable activity than a formal study session. The weekly rhythm of the show provides consistent, manageable exposure to the language. By regularly listening to this podcast, you train your ear to the sounds and patterns of Russian in a context that makes sense, allowing the language to sink in more deeply. Daria’s approach is straightforward and focused on practical understanding, creating a supportive audio space for anyone looking to build a genuine feel for how Russian works. The emphasis is always on comprehension and gradual, natural progress, turning what can be a daunting challenge into a series of small, achievable victories.
