3YB 882 AM

Few Australian stations can match the origin story of 3YB. Between October 1931 and November 1935 it existed as a mobile broadcaster, moving around regional Victoria from a Ford car and truck and later from a railway carriage once built for the 1899 Royal Train, giving towns without a local station a few weeks of programs at a time. The callsign honoured the Young Brothers of Ballarat, whose idea the travelling station was.

The station settled permanently in Warrnambool in 1935 and has served the south coast of Victoria ever since. After four decades on 882 AM it swapped bands with Vision Australia in 2018 and now transmits as 3YB FM on 94.5 MHz, playing adult contemporary music from the 70s to today, mixed with talk, news and sport as part of the Ace Radio network.

Local identity still leads the schedule: live coverage of Hampden League football, racing programs and weekend AFL are fixtures alongside the music. The free English-language stream carries all of it online, making 3YB a distinctive country radio listen live for the Great South Coast and far beyond.
