Triple M Darling Downs 864 carries Queensland's oldest commercial radio licence: 4GR began broadcasting from Toowoomba on 17 August 1925, the brainchild of pioneer Edward Gold, who ran test transmissions from a shed under the experimental callsign 4EG before winning the state's first commercial licence. A century on, the station celebrated its hundredth birthday in 2025.

Despite identifying as 4GR for more than ninety years, the station took the Triple M brand in December 2016 as part of Southern Cross Austereo's regional overhaul - a change locals famously resisted, with a Toowoomba newspaper poll finding three in four readers unhappy at losing the old name. The format today is the network's rock and classic hits mix, serving Toowoomba and the Darling Downs from a 2 kW AM signal.
