ABC South East SA

ABC South East SA - 5MG in its early years - is the ABC Local Radio station for the Limestone Coast, based in Mount Gambier and on air since 8 September 1955. Its very first broadcast was a performance by the Mount Gambier Choral Society from the Civic Hall - radio history of the gentlest kind.

The station serves a wide patch of the south-east - Naracoorte, Millicent, Robe, Kingston, Bordertown and Keith - with Breakfast and the South East SA Rural Report each weekday morning and Saturday Breakfast with Rod Sparks at the weekend; outside those hours it relays ABC Radio Adelaide.

Its Penola Road studios went digital in 2006, and a small full-time staff keeps the local voice alive across a region built on softwood plantations, dairy and crater-lake tourism. Free to stream online, it makes an easy local news web radio listen - seventy years of Limestone Coast conversation, from Mount Gambier to anywhere in the world.
