Uttorbango Betar

Uttorbango Betar - North Bengal Radio - carries a motto that doubles as its mission: the culture of the North, the songs of the North. Based in Rangpur, the station is devoted to the folk traditions of northern Bangladesh, with Bhawaiya songs and Baul mysticism at the heart of the playlist alongside Bangla pop and band classics.

Its signature event is the weekly Friday Special: night-long marathons devoted to single legends, timed to their birthdays and anniversaries. Baul master Shah Abdul Karim, pop pioneer Azam Khan, people's singer Fakir Alamgir and Bhawaiya's great interpreter Rathindranath Roy have all had their night on air.

Streaming through the zeno.fm platform in MP3 and run from a simple website, the station reaches Bengali listeners far beyond Rangpur - free web radio, a live listen online for the diaspora and anyone drawn to the sound of the North.
