FSJ Radio - XRN Australia

FSJ Radio promises audio air conditioning: a chilled mix of funk, soul and jazz flowing from the speakers after a hot and hard day. The station belongs to the X Radio Network, XRN, a group run by enthusiasts who also keep Australian shortwave radio alive, and it broadcasts from Wee Waa, a small cotton town in the north-west of New South Wales.

Locally FSJ can be found on 88.0 FM, but the real reach is online and through the XRN feeds, which carry the mix far beyond the Narrabri shire. There is no talk format to speak of - just a relaxed, continuous selection of grooves, the kind of stream you put on in the evening and leave running. For a tiny town on the Namoi River, it is an unexpectedly cool export. The town has form with big music moments: Daft Punk famously chose Wee Waa to launch their album Random Access Memories in 2013.
