Hong is So Wrong, Buttigieg's Radical Agenda, Michigan's No-Grade Policy | Last Call

Author: Jim Geraghty & Greg Corombos – Political Humor Commentary August 8, 2026 Duration: 27:10
Welcome to Last Call, a look at the biggest stories Jim and Greg covered over the past week on the 3 Martini Lunch.

This week, they discuss Wisconsin Dems at each other's throats over the governor's primary, how radical Pete Buttigieg's presidential agenda would be, the University of Michigan refusing to issue grades to first semester freshmen, and a Senate committee holding Dr. Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress.

First, they focus on Wisconsin, where many Democrats are furious at outgoing Gov. Tony Evers for aggressively trying to manufacture his preferred outcome in the governor's primary. Meanwhile, online posts from 2019 and 2020 are emerging in which the socialist frontrunner, Francesca Hong, wanted to ban Thanksgiving and felt uncomfortable eating around "old white people."

Next, they recoil as Pete Buttigieg tells Politico about his plans for radical change and incremental change if he's elected president in 2028. Jim and Greg detail just how insane Buttigieg's agenda is but point out the media will still call him a moderate because he doesn't yell much.

Then, they roll their eyes as the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts says freshmen will not get letter grades their first semester in order to help "curb the mental health crisis." The policy, which is set to begin in Fall 2027, will apply to all students. Jim and Greg wonder how we got this fragile.

Finally, Sen. Rand Paul and the Senate Governmental Affairs and Oversight Committee voted Thursday to hold Dr. Fauci in contempt of Congress for refusing to answer questions last week. Jim says he understands why this is happening but doubts much will ultimately come from it in the courts. Greg wonders the same but still thinks it's the right move.

Each day can feel like a barrage of headlines, a chaotic mix of the serious and the absurd. That’s where 3 Martini Lunch-Political Humor & Commentary comes in. Hosts Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos have built a following by sorting through the noise with a specific, effective ritual. They serve up the day’s events in three distinct parts they call "martinis": one for the genuinely good news, another for the frustratingly bad, and a final one reserved for the utterly crazy stories that defy belief. What you’ll hear in this podcast is a conversation that feels like sitting with two well-informed friends who aren’t afraid to be sharp, witty, or blunt. They analyze politics and culture with a perspective that cuts through partisan talking points, aiming for clarity and, often, a much-needed laugh. The pace is brisk and designed for a commute or a lunch break, but the commentary is substantial. Tuning into this podcast means getting a digest of what matters, framed with humor and insight that makes the whirlwind of news actually digestible. It’s a daily check-in that manages to be both smart and consistently entertaining, providing a structured way to understand the world without losing your sanity in the process.
