Thrive, Not Just Survive with Teresa Wiedrick

Teresea Wiedrick joins me on this edition of my special series, Look For The Helpers. We talk about learning, homeschooling, and living through a an epidemic with teenagers. How do we manage overwhelm and learn to thrive, not just survive?

Teresa Wiedrick is eager to share the freedoms of the homeschool lifestyle with the skeptical, the intrigued, and the curious. Twelve years ago, she searched for arguments against homeschooling, and that search shifted her family’s next decade. She is now a hearty advocate of home education and encourages other homeschool families to turn their challenges into their charmed homeschool lives.
Having homeschooled for more than twelve years, Teresa is very aware of the intense nature of this lifestyle. "A mama has got to practice self-care so she can thrive, not just survive," Teresa says.
Teresa is president of the British Columbia Home Education Association and will release her book, “Homeschool Mama Self-Care: Thrive not Just Survive” very very soon.

In This Episode

In this special episode Teresa talks about some of the challenges that parents face as they try to home educate their children and the solutions that can last a lifetime. We discuss;

  • Working while homeschooling~is there ever really the 'perfect' balance?
  • Keeping our kids engaged
  • Socialization vs social opportunities
  • Why knowing your purpose helps guide any activities throughout your days
  • Managing Intense Emotions
  • Overwhelm and negative self-talk
  • Self Care

We also talk about what becomes important in learning and education, new ways that we can approach our current reality and supporting unexpected home learners with teens.

Teresa's family has experienced a pandemic crisis before. The isolation, uncertainty and lack of control are not new to them. It is only fitting that as I look for the helpers, she is one that I find.
