04. The first pastor who baptized me said… (第一位幫我受洗的牧師說)

This pastor, like myself, also has a scientific background.
這位牧師和我一樣也是科學背景。

People with a scientific background, like us, tend to be more rational.
像我們這種科學背景的人，都比較理性。

We boldly hypothesize and carefully verify.
我們大膽假設、小心求證。

Which is why we tend to hold a skeptical attitude towards faith. This mindset is quite normal.
所以對信仰會抱持懷疑的立場，這種心態也是很正常的。

He said to me, "People are like washing machines. The basic function is to wash clothes.
他跟我說：「人就像一台洗衣機，基本功能就是洗衣服。

Although we can use it, without the manual, we won't know all the capabilities of the washing machine.
「雖然也能用，但如果沒有說明書，我們不會知道洗衣機的全部功能。

Only the creator of the washing machine knows its full capabilities.
「只有創造洗衣機的人知道洗衣機的全部功能。

"The Bible is like the manual for the washing machine.
「而聖經就像是洗衣機的說明書。

It's okay if you don't read the Bible, but you won't know your true value, and it feels a bit of a pity."
「不讀聖經也沒關係，只是這樣就無法知道自己真正的價值，感覺有點可惜。」

This analogy is practical, non-judgmental, and comfortable to listen to.
這種比喻很務實，沒有批判，讓人聽了很舒服。

As a result, I became more open-minded about faith.
於是我對信仰就比較敞開。

I was baptized not long after that.
不久之後我就受洗了。
