Season 5 Ep 18: Taking Risks and Dancing on Chairs with Dusti Arab

Season 5 Ep 18: Taking Risks and Dancing on Chairs with Dusti Arab

Author: Lisa Kuzman July 15, 2021 Duration: 39:50

My guest this week was Dusti Arab, a brand strategist who specializes in elevating the personality-driven brands of women on the rise who want to make a difference. Dusti got her start writing on the internet at a very young age, and has had an online business for over a decade — which means she's definitely got some stories to share.

This was a lovely, free-flowing conversation that touched on so many different topics near & dear to my heart:

  • growing up on the internet and doing everything wrong
  • developing stability and capacity (sometimes the hard way)
  • outsourcing the stuff you hate doing
  • the relationship between risk-taking and trauma
  • staying authentic during a mental health crisis
  • her upcoming book, Braver than Before

...and yes, a WHOLE lot more, especially about neurodiversity.

"I was definitely trying to find my voice and figure out who I was, learning how to navigate that space and figure out what was mine and what wasn't. I did everything wrong — and that was probably the best possible way for me to learn how I did actually want to show up on the internet as that conversation started to evolve."

Dusti, thank you so much for coming onto the show! I loved hearing everything you had to share and I know the listeners will, too. Want more from Dusti? There's a quiet shift happening in how we think about authority and influence, and New Wave Leadership Podcast is right at the heart of it. Host Lisa Kuzman believes traditional, top-down leadership models have run their course, proving ineffective for today's complex world. Instead, this movement champions a much broader, more inclusive vision. Each episode digs into the real, often unspoken challenges that come with stepping into a role of influence, whether you're in a corner office, a community group, or simply leading your own life. The conversations here actively work to expand our definition of who gets to be a leader, arguing passionately for the necessity of diverse identities, perspectives, and lived experiences at the helm. You'll hear frank discussions about authenticity, the personal hurdles leaders navigate behind closed doors, and practical ideas for cultivating your own unique leadership identity without conforming to outdated standards. Tuning into this podcast feels like joining a necessary dialogue-one that moves beyond theory to explore what it genuinely means to show up and make an impact on your own terms.
