12 – Trump doesn't speak Russian (A1: The verb ГОВОРИТЬ)

Author: Daria Molchanova – Real Russian Club December 11, 2023 Duration: 8:22

Russian verbs are divided into 2 conjugations. We have already practiced the so-called E-conjugation (I conjugation or First conjugation) where the endings included letter E: он работаЕт, ты отдыхаЕшь, вы читаЕте and so on.

This mini-story is for the 2nd conjugation aka И-conjugation.

For example, ГОВОРИТЬ (to speak):

я говорю
ты говоришь
он говорит
она говорит
мы говорим
вы говорите
они говорят

For languages we have a special form with 'по-': по-русски, по-испански, по-английски, по-немецки, по-итальянски, etc.

Daria Molchanova from the Real Russian Club hosts TPRS Russian-Effortless Russian, a podcast built around a specific and engaging language acquisition technique. The core idea is that you absorb grammar and build vocabulary not through memorization, but by following compelling, often humorous, narratives. Each episode presents a story in Russian, followed by simple questions designed to check your comprehension and solidify the language structures in your mind. This method, known as Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling, aims to make the learning process feel more like an enjoyable activity than a formal study session. The weekly rhythm of the show provides consistent, manageable exposure to the language. By regularly listening to this podcast, you train your ear to the sounds and patterns of Russian in a context that makes sense, allowing the language to sink in more deeply. Daria’s approach is straightforward and focused on practical understanding, creating a supportive audio space for anyone looking to build a genuine feel for how Russian works. The emphasis is always on comprehension and gradual, natural progress, turning what can be a daunting challenge into a series of small, achievable victories. New episodes arrive every Monday to integrate into your routine.
