About Gold 1242 AM
On air across Gippsland since 26 April 2002, Gold 1242 AM is the Traralgon-based classic hits and talkback service that Victorians in the Latrobe Valley know as Gippsland's Gold. Behind the simple brand sits the 3GV callsign and a transmitter near Sale, with an FM repeater on 98.3 from Mount Taylor widening the reach across Bairnsdale and the east.
The frequency has an echo of radio history: it became free only when veteran station 3TR moved to FM, in one of the last Australian regions to gain a commercial FM licence. Ace Radio filled the gap with Gold, and the station has kept the same mission since - oldies and evergreen hits, talkback, news and AFL Nation football for Gippsland.
Studios are shared with sister station TRFM in Traralgon, and the whole English-language service streams free over the internet. That makes it a simple web radio listen online for Gippsland expats and classic hits fans beyond regional Victoria.
