ABC Great Southern

ABC Great Southern carries one of Western Australia's oldest public transmitters: 6WA was planned during the Depression, built by 1935 and officially opened on 7 December 1936 - the ABC's first South West outlet. It survives in stories: a band vehicle crashing on opening day, and a wartime skeleton studio hidden in a Wagin house in case Perth fell.

Today the station broadcasts from Albany on 558 and 630 AM to the Great Southern and neighbouring Wheatbelt - Albany, Denmark, Katanning, Narrogin - with the ABC Local talk pattern: the Rural Report, breakfast and mornings from the Albany studios, and Regional WA Drive produced there for the state. The rest of the day relays ABC Perth.
