About Caama Radio

CAAMA Radio broadcasts from Alice Springs as the radio arm of the Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association, an organisation founded in 1980 by Freda Glynn, Phillip Batty and John Macumba to take Aboriginal music and culture to the rest of Australia. Its first signal, 8KIN-FM, was the very first Aboriginal radio station in the country.

The mix runs from country music to Aboriginal rock, call-ins, discussion, news and current affairs, with live recordings of Aboriginal bands part of the history. The legacy programme Green Bush played music requested by prisoners and served remote communities as an open line between listeners - a young Warwick Thornton, later a celebrated filmmaker, DJ'd on it.

Broadcasting in several languages alongside English, CAAMA has since grown into an organisation spanning television and recorded music too. Free to stream online, it makes an easy Aboriginal and community web radio listen - the sound of Central Australia, from the red centre to the world.
