Viquiradio

Viquiradio began in 2019 as a school project - a group of teachers and students decided to build an international radio station broadcasting entirely in Catalan, to promote and preserve the language. Its claim is bold: the only radio in the world on air in Catalan 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The station is run as a participatory project: listeners are invited to record and upload their own programmes, volunteers keep the wheels turning, and an educational section teaches the craft of editing audio. Music - pop, rock and folk from the Catalan-speaking lands - carries the broadcast day, and the site's blog reads like the diary of a community that genuinely cares.

Everything streams from viquiradio.com, and the project sustains itself partly through a small online shop selling Catalan books and headphones. Registered in Escaldes-Engordany, Andorra, it shows that a tiny country can host a radio with a worldwide mission.
