ABC Tropical North

ABC Tropical North is the local station of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation for the Mackay and Whitsunday region of Queensland, heard on 101.1 FM in Mackay. The territory it covers is sugar cane country and gateway to the Great Barrier Reef islands, and the programming matches: local news and talk in the mornings, rural reports for the cane and cattle districts, and the cyclone coverage that this coast depends on in summer.

Regional ABC stations like this one are the backbone of local news in regional Australia - when the cyclones cross the coast, Tropical North stays on air around the clock. The station streams live online, so the sound of tropical Queensland is available to anyone, from the cane fields to listeners far away in Australia or overseas.
