3MDR Mountain District Radio 97.1 FM

3MDR - Mountain District Radio on 97.1 FM - is the community station of the Dandenong Ranges, the forested hills east of Melbourne around Upwey, Belgrave, Tecoma and Emerald. Volunteer-run and fiercely local, it serves the villages of the ranges with an eclectic mix of music, talk and local information - much of it made by the musicians who live among the trees.

The ranges - home to the Puffing Billy steam railway - have always drawn artists, and the station reflects that: live local music sits beside specialist shows of every kind, and the presenters are neighbors. In a region where a bushfire can close the roads, a local voice on air is not a luxury. 3MDR streams live online around the clock, so the hills can be heard from anywhere - from Melbourne below to listeners far beyond.
