About 3EE Magic 1278 AM
One of Australia's oldest broadcast licences lives on at Magic 1278. The story began on 8 September 1935, when 3XY opened in Melbourne and later grew into one of the city's top pop stations of the 60s, 70s and 80s. A 1992 relaunch brought the 3EE callsign and The Breeze branding, and the frequency survives today on the AM dial at 1278 kHz.
The Magic brand arrived in 1993 and, apart from detours into talk lifestyle and sports formats in the late 2010s, has defined the station ever since. Today it is operated by Ace Radio for Tapt Media and positions itself as Melbourne's Classic Hits, playing oldies and evergreen hits in English on 1278 AM and DAB+ digital radio.
Magic 1278 also anchors a small classic hits network alongside 2UE in Sydney, 4BH in Brisbane and sister station 3MP. For listeners far from an Australian receiver, the free live stream keeps the golden-era playlist close - classic hits web radio to listen online wherever you are.
